Ksharsutra Treatment

Ksharsutra is an ayurvedic parasurgical technique commonly used to treat ano-rectal diseases. In this technique, a specially prepared medicated thread known as Ksharsutra (Medicated alkaline thread) is used to treat diseases. This is known as surgery without knives. This treatment is used for treatment of diseases like fistula in ano, piles, pilonidal sinus, and fissure in ano. Ksharsutra has been practised from ancient times.

Symptoms of Piles/Hemorrhoids: – Piles are inflamed and swollen collections of tissues /lump in anal region.

  1. Painful defecation
  2. Swelling around anus or mass protrusion through rectum.
  3. Itching and burning sensation around anus.

If not treated in time, it may escalate into a more severe condition which may include.

  • Excessive anal bleeding, possibly leading to anemia.
  • Infection
  • Fecal incontinence
  • Anal Fistula
  • A strangulated hemorrhoid, in which blood supply to the hemorrhoid is cutoff causing blood clot or infection.

Generally Piles can be divided into two types

  1. External Piles
  2. Internal Piles
  3. i) External Piles:-Small lumps on the outside edge of anus.They are itching and can be painful if blood clot develops, as the blood clot blocks the flow of blood. Thrombosed external piles require immediate medical treatment.
  4. ii) Internal Piles: – Internal Piles are further divided into four stages.
  5. First Stage: – Tiny piles mass within the lining of anus, they are not visible.
  6. Second Stage:-These are piles mass slightly larger than stage one, they might be pushed inside on their own,when they come outside on passing stool.
  7. Third Stage:-Piles mass come outside anus. Patients can push them back in by pressing against them with his /her fingers.
  8. Fourth Stage: – Piles mass can’t be pushed back and stay outside the anus.They need to be treated by a doctor who usually suggests a surgery or Ksharsutra.

Causes of Hemorroids /Piles:-

  1. Continuous constipation.
  2. Regular diarrhoea.
  • Straining during defecation
  1. Pregnancy may increase the risk of developing piles.
  2. Lifting heavy weights.
  3. Family history of hemorrhoids and increased age.
  • Staying or standing for a long period of time without taking rest.
  • Excessive consumption of meat product, alcoholic drinks ,etc
  1. Decreased sleep, increased stress.
  2. Increased consumption of maida made products like mo:mo, chaumin, noodles, biscuits, etc.
  3. More intake of spicy products.

Fistula in Ano: – Fistula is an abnormal tunnel/canal that runs from inside the anus as primary opening to a secondary opening in the perianal skin. Generally it is seen as boil or abscess outside anal region.

Symptoms:-

  1. Pus discharge through the external wound intermittently.
  2. Itching sensation around anus.
  • Painful bowel movements or urination.
  1. Fever.
  2. Redness and swelling around anus.
  3. Foul Smelling liquid oozing from a hole near anus.

Causes:-

  1. Clogged anal glands and anal absuss.
  2. Injury to the anal and perennial region.
  • Crohn’s diseases and diverticulitis.
  1. Radiation.
  2. Sexually transmitted diseases (HIV&AIDS, Syphilis,Chlamydia)
  3. Anorectal cancer.
  • Hidradenitis suppurativa (Chronic condition in which sweat gland develop infection)

Fissure in Ano:-

A small linear tear in skin that lines the opening of Fissure in Ano.

Symptoms of Fissure in ano:-

  1. Bleeding per rectum.
  2. Painful defecation.
  • Itching and burning sensation around anus.
  1. Usually passing of hard stool.

Causes:-

  1. Hard dry stool movement but loose stool/diarrhea might cause it.
  2. Chronic constipation

:- excessive intake of meat product, alcohol, oily & spicy food.

:- Excessive consumption of maida made product (mo:mo,Chaumin,Noodles,etc)

  1. Decrease intake of fiber rich food(fruits and vegetables)
  2. Decrease sleep and increased stress.
